boat trip on the Mekong

20121111-213659.jpg

Here we are on the slow boat to Luang Prabang in Laos. This is another boat nearby. We travelled from 12 to 7pm. It is a very slow boat with over 100 people on it packed to the gills and very hot. The Mekong river is the10th longest in the world and it is brown, not like our beautiful blue water in Canada. We met a lot of interesting people from all over the world and had supper with them here in Pak Beng. Free moonshine with supper which was $12 for two including three giant beers. The trip continues tomorrow for 7 more hours. Should have flown. 🙂

Hey guys, Lisa VK told me you were on an adventure in SE Asia! Good for you. How many dong are in your pocket now? I loved Laos and wished I had stayed longer. No you shouldn’t have flown….no adventure in that! Taking the slow boat and the local transport is the only way to go in those parts of the world! What’s the rush?! Are you going to Cambodia? You should……Angkor Wat and all the other surrounding wats are very impressive. Hot there now though, my sister just got back last week. Enjoy the travels and keep enjoying the big beers over there……safer than the water! Nance

    • Great to hear from you! Yes, the big beers are twice as good as the little beers. This is our first night in Luang Prabang. We thoroughly enjoyed the second day on the slow boat. They split our group into two boats so we could stretch and relax and actually feel the breeze. The landscape is stunning and we’ve met people from all over the world. On Saturday we will fly from Vientiane to Hanoi and then we will get some dongs in our pocket. Hope to do Halong Bay tour and meet up with Dianne Leflers daughter and son-in-law in Hue.
Don’t work too hard! Retirement is highly recommended.
